Have you heard Ken and Barbie was broken up?

This video shared by my friend today, I was shocked and found it interesting. Let’s have a look on this video.

Ken was interviewed by Greenpeace and learned that Barbie's scandalous deforestation habit. He cannot accept it and broke up with her. Ken also staged a protest at Mattel headquarters in USA to announce to public that they were over.

This video was created by Greenpeace. It is interesting, isn’t it? But it is not all about fun, but also deforestation. Greenpeace wants to tell Mattel, the manufacturer of Barbie, stop using paper packaging for wraping Barbie from Indonesia’s most notorious rainforest destroyer Asia Pulp and Paper (APP).

The rainforests in Indonesia are home to some of the last tiger, orabg-utans and elephants. APP destroyed the critical wildlife habitat and carbon-rich rainforests to make the throw away toy packaging. We do not have rights to destroy the rainforests because of the nice packaging.

I hope Mattel stops using APP. Otherwise Ken won’t forgive Barbie, as same as the customers and me!!!!

What's a creative ads come from our HK Government!

How many of you have seen this creative advertisment on TV??? If not, I strongly recommend you to spend few mintues to watch it, which is a creative and full of Hong Kong culture video. "Make the world, make a GREEN world".

You're not expected this advertisment is come from Environment Bureau!

Because of the video, it attracted me to visit their website:
Green_HK

Then I found more and more materials and information of the environment protection from Government. They have carried out a lot of internet advertising campaign. To reach out to a wider community, the TV announcements, radio announcements, ringtone and video have been added into their website for review, also an on-line computer game has been developed to encourage the public to think and act green in their daily lives. Click to the game page.

Improving our environment is not a job just for either the Government or green groups. It is a business for each and everyone of us. Action makes a difference. We all should take part to help make a change.  A better environment can be more attainable if it becomes a way of life.  We must start forming new habits.  A simple act in our daily living can help conserve energy and reduce waste production or generation.

Turn interest into business: DIY with natural and organic, does it work with social media?

Hey, I would like to share a blog with you.  The blogger share her daily life which all related to the environment issue.  She shares her farming life, studies of aroma therapy, ideas of environmental protection and her handmade DIY natural products.

I was surprised that she turn her interest into a real business!  She sells her harvests, DIY aroma skincare and natural food products in the blog.  The blogger linked up with the blog of her shop (Jovial DIY) with her personal blog.  假日農夫

The blogger make use of most of the social media channels to promote her business, for example blog, forum, flickr, YouTube, facebook, etc.  Customer can discuss with the shop owner and other customers in those channels for product information and ideas about GREEN, the shop want to build up relationship with their customer and spreading the ecofriendly message in these ways.
Jovial DIY encourage their customer to return or reuse the product container when they do repeat purchase.  Customer will be refunded for the empty bottles or discount offered on the product when they bring their own container for shopping.

Posted customer's comment in flickr
Products catalogue in Facebook of Jovial DIY
However, there are some cons for the shop using the social media to market their product.  Although the cost of advertising is low, for the small scale business like Jovial DIY is difficult to arouse awareness of the audience in certain level.  As not all people are interested in the green topic when they browse the social media channels, they wont particularly to search related topics in there, so they may not discover the shop and related information about the shop.  Consumer confidence is another problem for the shop, as this is a online shop, customer cannot touch the product, they may have query on the product quality, while other customers may left their negative comment in the social media channels, this will affect the customer attitude, belief and decision.
Handmade aroma soap, handmade jam, bread and cookies, food and skincare product.
